Algarve Marlin Fishing

Yes...you can catch Marlin in European waters, and less than a 3 hour journey from the UK.

Where is the Algarve...it is the region on the south coast of Portugal.

You can achieve your dream just a twenty-minute boat ride from our mooring.

Our boat Striker One has provided a Marlin, or more than one, for over 65% of our anglers.

This is a far higher catch average than is being achieved in the states...and it will only cost as

much as a days wreck fishing in the UK.

What about the language...no problem, we speak English.

For the accomplished angler we can open up a whole new world of modern fish catching techniques.

If you are inexperienced or a junior we can coach you accordingly.

Our aim is to provide you with high quality big game sport fishing at an affordable price.

We are happy...only if you are happy.

When you arrive we will explain exactly what fish are available and the techniques that can be

employed to capture specific species.

We provide the very latest fishing equipment for the use of our clients.

Our Captain has over 15 years fishing experience so all your questions can be answered.

Your lunch, snacks and cold drinks are all included in the charter fee so you bring only yourself.

Striker One is a 100% sport fishing boat; no fish caught are sold to add-on an extra profit.

You cannot take home some fish fillets as is normal in the UK, but if you fish with 36 hours of

departure you can fly home with a cool box of fresh tuna for your summer barbeques.

Okay...so lets get down to some details.

Electronics are professional quality Simrad duel frequency sonar, Simrad GPS/Chart plotter, a Raytheon

16inch radar, and two VHF/CB radios, and full halogen deck lighting.

Permanent fishing equipment includes outriggers by Lees of Miami, a fighting chair from Todd,

aboard facilities at any time of the tide.

We clearly are able to offer you a sport fishing experience that is unique in this region.

Fishing equipment available includes reels by Penn, Everol and Shimano with 80, 50, 30 and 20lb Sufix

Line fitted to matching stand-up rods by Shimano and Chaos.

We have a huge selection of over 500 individual trolling lures available.

All are professional rigged and fitted with Mustad stainless big game hooks, Ande leaders and antichafe

thimbles.

To enable the angler to control the hooked fish right to the boat side (and enhance crew safety)

Braid wind-on leaders and Sampo ball bearing swivels are used throughout.

A varied selection of teasers is carried to suit all requirements.

Also available is a full range of hard and soft casting lures.

Experienced anglers are welcome to bring their own equipment providing it is in good condition and

reels are spooled up with new line.

What can i expect to catch, (and how big)?

Many game fish species are available in waters from May until late October.

These range from Dorado, Bonito, Skipjack Tuna, Bluefin Tuna and Big Eye Tuna.

Shark species include Mako, Blue and Hammerhead.

Three billfish species are available, White Marlin, Blue Marlin and Swordfish.

For the experienced anglers the most prized catch is the Marlin.

Our most common species by far is the White Marlin, which average 70lb.

Our largest went 107lb last year; our best single day catch was 5 fish.

We did not specifically target Blue Marlin last year but on this coast fish caught are usually 400lb+

(Best last year, one 435lb, a novice angler’s first fish).

Our usual technique is to troll lures and bait. The system covers a vast area of Ocean and presents

our ‘spread’ to the largest number of fish.

Withe Marlin are often seen on the surface and this can present exciting opportunities for bait casting

or the experienced fly fishermen.

While trolling we see numerous tuna (tens of thousands last year) these can be caught using light

tackle lure casting or trolling mini lures.

For fly fishermen these fish present an unusual target species with their sizzling initial run followed by a vertical power dive. (“I can feel the tail beats right through the rod” said a pioneering client last year).

For surface caught tuna sizes are normally 2-8kg. so gear can be matched accordingly.

Largest tuna (big eye) caught on this coast went 234lb took two men and 3 hours to beat (1998).

Bluefin tuna up to 1000lb are caught each year in a commercial trap set on our coastal shelf.

All shark species are caught drifting bait in a chum trail, but as small fish are frequently seen near

the boat again light tackle can be used for a selected catch and release.

All Marlin are unhooked at the boat side and fitted with a high tech. Streamer tag.

Some food fish may be retained by the Captain for use by the anglers and crew.

When do you need to come, and what will the weather be like?

The weather is mostly sun, sun and sun.

Last rainfalls in early May and doesn’t start again until late October.

We have 300+ days sunshine per year (shh..don’t tell anyone it’s a National secret).

Game fish arrive with warm water 17 degrees C and up, which is usually from mid April.

This year Tuna, Marlin and Dorado were seen first on April 5th. The first sharks were caught 4

days earlier.

So how do you get here and where do you stay?

Getting here couldn’t be easier.

Direct flights from Luton UK to Faro is 2hr 15min. London, Gatwick, Manchester and Midland

also run flights to Faro airport.

What is the cost?

The daily charter fee is 750,00 Euros this can be paid by Visa card.

The fee includes lunch, snacks and all drinks.

Use of all fishing equipment is included, as is all bait.

Your charter is secured with a deposit of 25% of the charter fee.

Remember you are our client so our time is your time.

You are going out on the ocean; you will experience sights and feelings that may be very new to

You, if you want to photograph a dolphin or sleeping turtle, we can stop fishing as you wish.

The time you spend onboard Striker One is your ’quality time’ and we want you to enjoy it 100%.

We usually leave our mooring at 09.00hours and plan to be back around 17.00hours.

These times can of course be adjusted with the agreement of the Captain.

The boat is most comfortable with 2 anglers, this allows for some ’cover’ in event of multiple hook-

ups (a double header in big game fishing terms).

If we have 1 angler on board the crew/angler will determine the smaller fish so the angler can

bring this fish to boat in short order for a quick release, he can then fight the larger fish in a more

relaxed manner.

More anglers can be accommodated (max.4) but they should be good friends, experienced anglers,

and be prepared to enjoy the successes of each other.

Special Arrangements:

For the experienced big game fishermen we can offer overnight drift fishing over our offshore

Canyon for Broadbill Swordfish.

Bait and switch Marlin for light tackle anglers.

Bait and switch Marlin and Sharks for the Blue Water fly fishermen.

Should you require answers to any specific questions you can talk any time.
